The Story: Shahed means witness. We crafted this label to honor the art of Heba Zagout who was murdered in Gaza by Israeli forces. We sought to tell a story that her art bore witness to: Ages ago, Palestinian hands began the back breaking labor of cultivating the hills and building terracing walls. Palestinian ancestors have been stewards of this land for thousands of years and to testify to this sacred and historic relationship, our olive trees have stood and watched. They have borne witness to foreign occupation, one after another until the next, but through it all, they have watched as Palestinian ancestors care for the land and her trees.Â
