This gorgeous table runner is full of hand stitched, traditional Palestinian tatreez on stunning Majdalawi, a traditional fabric that is handwoven in Syrian and Gaza on large wooden looms. Today, only the looms in Syria remain and this fabric is imported with great challenges to Palestine. It is extremely difficult to stitch on because it is a heavy, thick material. To this effect, you’ll notice where the stitches curve a bit as women have to tug at the material while they embroider. It features a stunning design is vibrant colors for you to use on your table and share Palestinian culture and heritage with guests.
This is handcrafted by Manjel Ma’qoud, a women’s embroidery group we formed in January of 2024 in response to the increasing pressure Palestinian women are under due to the ongoing and increasing Israeli closures and suffocation of the Palestinian economy. These designs are only available through Handmade Palestine and through your purchase, we are supporting 80 women and their families.
Dimensions: 180 cm long
*Majdalawi is incredibly difficult to work with and this one is particularly thick so the embroidery is not always perfectly straight as women pull and tug at the fabric using marke to embroider. It’s part of the beauty of the piece.
Did you know we donate the profit of your purchase to Mashjar Juthour, a great eco-initiative in Palestine that plants trees and protects Palestinian natural heritage! Plus, everything is purchased fair trade, so together we are helping sustain so many livelihoods in Palestine.
