This blue and white keffiyeh is a beautiful variation of the traditional Palestinian design symbolizing the Mediterranean Sea and the region’s rich cultural history. The colors evoke the serene waters of the Mediterranean, a key element of Palestinian geography and life. Woven in Palestine with a blend of tradition and meaning, this keffiyeh offers a subtle yet powerful connection to the land’s heritage.Â
This traditional keffiyeh is made by a Palestinian factory that has its origins in Jericho before fleeing the 1948 Nakba and reopening in Jordan. It was among the first factories in Palestine in its day and has been making Palestinian kufiyas for decades.
The keffiyeh has become an important symbol of Palestinian resistance. In the 30s it was worn, and embraced as an image, by the armed guerillas who prosecuted armed rebellion against the British occupiers of Palestine. Until that period, the keffiyeh had primarily marked its wearer as rural, as a peasant, Fallah, or a Bedouin.
